Commissioned by Brigham Young University’s Group for New Music, Lo! laments the tumult of contentious voices brought on by the pandemic and other major events in 2020 and welcomes the need to look to heaven for answers.
This work was commissioned in part to commemorate the bicentennial of what Latter-day Saints regard as the first vision to the Prophet Joseph Smith, in which he saw God the Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. The young farm boy Joseph found himself in the midst of a contentious and competitive religious revival, yet in the flurry of feelings, he found his answer and life calling in solitude on his knees.
